It is sometimes calledbreast-conserving surgery. That’s because much of your breast will be left intact.For this surgery, you are first given medicine, so you fall asleep and don’t feel pain.Your surgeon then makes a small cut near the lump in your breast. They remove the lump and anedge, or margin, of nearby healthy tissue.Your surgeon may also make another small cut in your armpit. They may do so to take out nearbylymph nodes. These nodes, the lump, and the margin of healthy tissue will be checked for cancer in alab.Once done, your surgeon closes all cuts and covers them with bandages.After the surgery, you can likely go home the same day.
