Q&A: What if my baby has intestinal issues, or necrotizing
enterocolitis?
Vedang Londhe, MD
Necrotizing enterocolitis is a very complex medical problem that babies, especially born prematurely can sometimes have.
It's basically a condition where inflammation has rendered the gut, essentially dysfunctional. It can sometimes be a
surgical problem as well if the baby's gut happens to develop what we call perforation that would require surgical
intervention.
