You may bemore familiar with its generic name, Oxycodone.Roxicodone is a high alert medication, which means if you do not take it exactly asprescribed, it may cause illness or injury.To understand how Roxicodone works, let’s look at how pain affects your body.Thousands of tiny nerve cells in your body sense many feelings; cold, heat, pressure,and pain. When your body is injured, the tiny nerve cells send a message to your brainthat says: I’m in pain here!Roxicodone blocks the pain message being sent from your nerve cells to your brain torelieve your pain.Roxicodone comes in a tablet. Your healthcare provider will decide how much youneed to take, but dosages range from 5 milligrams to 15 milligrams. Make sure youunderstand exactly what you are taking and how you are supposed to take it to avoidinjury.Roxicodone is a powerful medication. Some people should not take it. Do not takeRoxicodone if you have asthma, trouble breathing or other lung problems.If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or are breastfeeding, tell your healthcareprovider.Before taking Roxicodone, tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of headinjury; seizures; liver, kidney disease or thyroid problems; or pancreas or gallbladderproblems.Roxicodone can be highly addictive. Get upfrom a sitting or lying position slowly.Do not drive or operate heavy machinery, including your car, until you know howRoxicodone affects you.Do not drink alcohol while taking Roxicodone. Drinking alcohol while takingRoxicodone can cause serious side effects leading to death.If you have: trouble breathing, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, chest pain, swellingin your face or throat or extreme tiredness, call 911 and get help immediately.This is not a complete list of side effects.
